The use of Animals as Test Subjects for Neuroscience Research
Over the years, scientists have used animals as research subjects for neuroscience research. This is based on the popular argument that animals are less valuable than human beings. Some neuroscientists believe that it is better to lose the life of an animal to save that of a human being. Others tend to assume that animals would not suffer from psychological and physical pain and problems that human beings suffer from. Likewise, there is a popular argument that animals are lesser beings to humans. If they can be killed for food, they can also be killed for experimental research to find solutions to ailing health problems affecting human beings (Jääskeläinen 4). However, this take on the use of animals in research has not been justified. It is important to note that animals also experience pain and suffering, similar to human beings. This paper is based on the argument that animals should only be used in neuroscience research when the researchers can treat them in a humane manner without oppressing or degrading them.
