The family history assignment consists of you investigating the religious affiliations (or lack thereof) of your family going back to at least your grandparents, if possible. (If it's not, that's fine.)
If you can, include other relatives such as aunts, uncles, cousins etc. Write a 2-3 page essay reflecting on what you've learned. Things to consider asking family members:
Why did/didn't they join particular religions?
What does their identity as a member of that religion mean to them?
Have they ever joined a different religion or considered doing so?
Things to consider when writing your essay: Did you find any patterns?
Did anything surprise you?
What has the role of religion (or being non-religious, as the case may be) been in your family? How does your family's religious history impact your worldview, if at all?
If you are an international student or there has been recent immigration in your family, how has being in the US affected your religious practice?

The Diria Dynasty
I, HarunDiria, practice Islam. I am of the Diria dynasty, an affable and homely people. The Diria lineage has been a predominantly Islam affiliated one. Our grandfather, Mohammed AbeidDiria, born and raised in the outskirts of Aleppo, Syria, was himself born into a Muslim family of the Shiite faction. His first wife and my grandmother, Aisha Bin Mahmud, also came from a largely Muslim family also of the Shiite doctrines. My grandfather went on to marry other three women all of whom were also Muslim.
