Syrian Immigration in the US
The war in Syria is one of the most serious humanitarian disasters of the century. The war has led to death of millions of innocent civilians killed while others have been subjected to inhumane suffering. As at 2015, more than 11 million Syrians have been displaced from their country (Mercy Corps, 2015). The impact of the war has even expanded to the neighboring Middle East countries. The war started in March 2011 as anti-government peaceful demonstrations. The demonstrations then escalated after the violent response by the government. By July the same year, the defectors of the army organized the Free Army of Syria, and many civilians joined the opposition in the war. The civil conflicts arose between the Islamists and seculars while others arose between ethnic groups. Since the civil war started, more than 220, 000 people have lost their lives, half of whom are civilians (Mercy Corps, 2015). There are widespread human rights violations in the country as frequent bombings are destroying cities. At the same time, there is a huge scarcity of necessities such as medical care and food. The situation has forced thousands of Syrians to seek refuge in other countries. This paper discusses Syrian immigration in the US. The paper focuses on the factors that make the Syrians prefer migrating to the US than to other Middle East countries.
