Summary part I
Hirschkind’s Civic Virtue and Religious reason: An Islamic counterpublic (2001) focuses on the role of modern media and technology in advancing religion. The article explores the wide range of religious text materials that have become a common sight in today’s world and the effect of these texts on religion, and specifically, in the Islamic religion. The article gives emphasis on the role of print as well as other media technologies in the push for a democratization of religious authority. While the development in technology has enabled people to communicate and share information, these platforms are also being used to push for certain agenda concerning religion.
