Introduction

Police brutality is a vice that continues to affect the society despite the strides made to achieve universal equality and acceptance. Police officers are among those that the society considers to be protectors of the law and defenders of the innocent. However, what happens when people can no longer trust these authority figures? In the past, cases of police brutality were fueled by prejudice among the police forces toward particular groups. One of the famous police brutality cases is the extreme treatment of Rodney King by police officers that was captured on video, providing the image of classic police brutality (Chaney, 2013). In recent times, there has been an upsurge in unprovoked discrimination by police officers against Black and Hispanic youths.
