An evaluation plan is an important component of any professional development plan. The research and evaluation techniques used in any program evaluation must align with the goals and objectives of that project, whether it is a professional development plan, a grant, or a curriculum project. Understanding the purpose, type, and characteristics of both action research and program evaluation will help you identify which research strategies to use when evaluating your professional development plan. Evaluation plan plays significant role in any form of professional development plan.
Throughout module 3, there are series of evaluations and research techniques used which contributes to the overall alignment of goals and objectives of the entire project. The context of type, characteristics and also the action of the entire project will act as guidelines of the professional development plan.
Section 1 Action Research
Research design is described as the entire (overall) strategy which is used to make the study of different components to be successful hence ensuring that the research problem is effectively addressed. The strategy which was used to enhance this work from Chapter 3 is basically action research design. It is a kind of research characterized by series of cycles through which the exploratory stance is adopted. The critical understandings of problem are logically developed and the subsequent plans made through the form of interventional strategy (Mason, 2014). There is massive tackling of interventional strategies in a systematic cyclic process which was repeated over and over until there was sufficient understanding of the concepts from Chapter 3. The problem statement of the study will also focus on the specific factors involved in the professional development activities that can be replicated in other institutions of learning, both public and private to achieve the same results. The study will involve focus group discussions, for the student population and a survey for the teachers. Focus group discussions make it easy to gather information from a large group of people within a short time. Citing the large number of students at Eastlake high School, the focus group discussions remain the best option for the study. The students will be grouped in groups of eight, allowing them to mingle freely.
