As an art museum, the gallery was started in1824 in Trafalgar Square in London. Currently, the gallery is home to over 2.300, paintings that date from as early as the mid-nineteenth century through the twentieth to the twentieth century. Throughout its history, the gallery has been a non –departmental public and exempt charity body. The museum currently falls under the jurisdiction of the Culture, Media and Sport's Department as it is a publicly owned entity. The currently available 2,300 of the arts exhibited in the museum belong to the British public, this being among the reasons behind its ever growing popularity throughout history. In fact, as a means to support and popularize the museum, entry to the main assortment is free, but there are other charges for viewers in the special exhibitions section. Currently, the museum has managed to grow up to the level of being a collection of international renowned arts since its start in 1824 (Conlin).
