Introduction

The French revolution is an intricate series of events that happened between 1789 and 1799. It can be categorized into three major stages. The first stage was more peaceful constitutional reformation, and so disputes were settled through the right procedure. The second stage involved an internal crisis in terms of power consolidation where the French government spent numerous resources fighting Old Regime vestiges in the country. Lastly, the third stage entailed the military rule under Napoleon where his greed of power led him to the invasion of Russia. However, it is worth noting that Napoleon’s miscalculations resulted to his defeat by the Russians under Czar Alexander I.

Napoleon was born on August 15th, 1769 at the islands of Corsica in a town called Ajaccio. He was the second son in a family of nine having 7 siblings. His father was a lawyer who was of the middle class. Napoleon was a radical person in outlook from a young age where he sought to be strongly identified with his heritage of Corsican. The adultery of Napoleon’s mother with Comte de Marbeuf, the French military governor, resulted to an open door for Napoleon to pursue his military education at Brienne military academy. He later joined the Military school in Paris in 1784.

The idea of the French Revolution beginning from the late 1700s and advancing to the early 1800s was readily pleasing to the French citizen’s ideologies of liberty. It is evident that equality and prosperity was an idea that inspired many and readily welcomed.
