Lending Institutions, Health Care, and Human Capital
Funding From the International Lending Institutions to the Tunisian Government
Tunisia’s unrest after the Arab Spring had devastating effects on the state of the country. The country experienced civil unrest leading to economic meltdown. As result, it was compelled to form a transition government until a legitimate one was elected. However, the pundits argued that, the only way to have a peaceful country was to provide equal opportunities to for everyone; create more jobs and improve its infrastructure. The civil unrest ignited the current account deficit which is likely to remain constant despite signs of economic recovery. In addition, the foreign debt ratio is likely to increase despite foreign aid extended to the country to settle its public and external deficits. International Monetary Fund (IMF), World Bank (WB), European Investment Bank, and African Development Bank have pledged more financial support to Tunisia on the condition that, it accelerates its economic and political reforms. Development aid is crucial for promoting stability in the country because it is facing deep economic and socio-political challenges (Brownlee, Masoud & Reynolds, 2015).
