Law Enforcement Role in Community
Reflecting on historical perspective, one can concur that law enforcement has never before experienced a challenge of the difficulty that it goes through with homeland security and terrorism. Terrorists aim to inflict public fear, maximum casualty, and mass destruction through their illegal acts, thus they respect neither society established practices nor law (Shusta, Levine, Wong, Olson & Harris, 2011). In that case, law enforcement personnel have a role to play in ending the continuity of such acts. Evidently, criminals who turn to terrorism, irrespective of their intentions, are normally not restricted through any categories. Given that the main objective of law enforcement is to guarantee society security and safety, a terrorist threat happening itself is a society safety problem that can send the entire public into misperception and turmoil (Shusta et al., 2011). Law enforcement comes in to react to terrorism threats, in addition to actual occurrences, and actions of terrorism. Law enforcement officials through the Homeland Security promote peace and disaster preparedness, and this is attained by working with multinational communities in regions of domestic and global terrorism.
