Interview: Remembering The Holocaust

Interview: Remembering the Holocaust

Interview a relative or someone close to you (your parent or grandparent, or someone in that age range) about how he/she first heard about the Nazi Holocaust. You may interview anyone, from any background.

Please make sure to ask the following questions:

  • How old were you when you first heard about the Holocaust?
  • What did you hear (and from who or what)?
  • How did you react?
  • What do you remember about how you felt?

(You may also ask your own questions in addition to these).

Please conclude your paper by considering how his or her story relates to your own knowledge of the Holocaust.

Format: Instead of relaying the interview verbatim, extract the main ideas. Use short quotes throughout so that we get a sense of the person’s voice.

Your paper should be double-spaced, one inch margins, Times New Roman 12 point font, and 1-2 pages in length. Please write in complete sentences. You may reference or quote printed materials, but make sure that all such references are properly cited.

Interview: Remembering the Holocaust

The holocaust was a genocide that was committed against Jews that took place in the first half of the 20thcentury. “The occurrence of the most inhumane genocide in the world’s history took place between 1939, and 1945 (Fischel 274). It is during this period that the Nazis ascended to power in January 1933. Their leader was Adolf Hitler, who was a racists and a dictator. The Nazis generally believed that the existence of Jews in Germany and in Europe at large was a threat to the existence of the Europeans. They believed that they were racially superior to the Jews. Other minority groups that were considered as inferior were also included in the holocaust. Most of the Jewish people that stayed in Europe during that period were in Germany and in countries in which Germany had a great influence.
