Length: 2 pages (725 Words)
Thesis: If lobbying and campaign finance in the U.S. are not reformed, American democracy is doomed
Lobbying is a historical act used by influential individuals in the attempt to have a say on decisions executed by government officials or mostly legislators. These acts would most probably involve the use of lump sum amounts of money to make officials betray their codes of conduct to make decisions in favor of the lobbyists. The democracy of the American country is significantly affected by the fact the subject of lobbying has been declared by the judicial courts as freedom of speech. Moreover, it is protected by the constitution. A recent research suggests that lobbying is mostly practiced by huge corporations since it is conducted by use of large figures of money which cannot be accessed by an average individual. The further research states that lobbying expectedly occurs in each hierarchical government structure such as the state, federal, county and municipal stages. Consequently, those parties interested in the lobbying activities usually target the Congress House where the enacting of laws takes place. The lobbyists are willing to gain certain power in case the set goals are achieved. In this case the interests of citizens are put on the prior position.
