Green design Case Studies
The concept of green design is demonstrated in many learning institutions where learners shift from the school buildings of the 1950s to the new ‘green design’ buildings of that have been designed with the environmental factor in mind. The buildings are constructed to ensure good environmental health and sustainability for the occupants. Among the features of the modern buildings include indoor air quality, natural lighting, acoustics and thermal comfort. The case study presented by Doll (2005) investigated the experiences of the occupants of the building as far as the productivity of the students as well as their health is concerned. The researchers investigated whether the green design was able to deliver the environmental sustainability aspects that it promised to the occupants. The data was collected from teachers and students occupying the classroom to come up with a greater overview of the aspects of green design.
