Fritz Lang’s M (1931) sound analysis.
The first movie about a serial killer also happened to be Fritz Lang’s first sound film (Schrader, 2016). A rapidly deteriorating Republic, a dysfunctional political system and a society pervaded with criminality. Fritz created a script that was heavily dependent on the use of sound. All his previous films were only dominantly visual. His shift from visual to Audiovisual was marked by the release of this movie that has been termed by some as a stroke of genius on the perfect intermarriage of sound and script.
