- ISKCON has its roots in Gaudiya (Caitanya) which began around 1510. It was founded by Grace A.C Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada (1896-1977). ISKCON identifies itself with Hindu and Vaishnavism with its beliefs rooted in Bhagavad Gita and follows the teachings of Prabhupada the founder. It believes in the evil age, but with salvation, we shall return to Godhead. ISKCON members practice Krishna teachings in their daily lives and attend temples for worship purposes. Full members of Hare Krishna are not supposed to eat meat, fish, eggs, drink alcohol, use drugs, gamble, and finally they must remain celibate unless for procreation purposes.
