Mainstream Public Relations in a Risk Society
In the modern world, there have been issues facing the field of public relations. Both internal and external environments surrounding the sector have facilitated the issues. Maintaining the public image for a particular society has not been always easy because there are some organizations or individuals who feel that they can oppress other members of the community for their sake. The mainstream public relation is among the field filled with controversies on what they should do or what they should not do. It becomes more complicated when the issues to be addressed are risky to the society, and the assumptions to address the issue might cause short- term or long-term effect to people in a particular society. This paper will discuss what is likely to happen to mainstream public relations in a risk society in relation to an incident caused by Fukushima nuclear power station and the problems that might arise when fixed assumptions are used to predict the behavior of the target publics.
