2. Articulate your statement of aim (full sentence).
|The aim of the paper is to discuss the connection between mining activities in North Korea and water pollution. |
3. Outline some of the key issues you will address.
|Many mines in North Korea do not properly treat their waste water before releasing it into rivers. For instance, the Musan mine located in the boundary between China and North Korea conducts steel-making activities with the aim of converting mined iron into steel (Choi, 2011). However, due to technological limitations, not all the mined iron is turned into steel. The waste particles are discharged into the nearby river, a factor that has led to substantial pollution of the water that is used for both agricultural and domestic use. The fine waste particles gather inside the settling pond situated at the bottom of the mine while clean water remains at the top. The process does not happen as is scientifically required, leaving some fine particles to drain into the river. The particles float in the river making the water yellowish and unfit for consumption. |
