Do You Think That Sociologists Have A Responsibility To Take Sides On Their Research Topics?
Length: 1 pages (550 Words)
Sociology is the scientific study of human social relationships, institutions, and behaviors. Sociologists are mainly concerned with understanding and organizing knowledge about social life. By studying people, sociologists face the problem of objectivity and value-free research. Historically, sociology has been viewed as a natural science. Early sociologists argued that the research methods applied in natural sciences should be used in the study of social behavior. These early sociologists believed that science was the only form of objective knowledge. As a natural science, sociology relied on logic and empirical data to remain objective. By being objective, sociologists have to maintain absolute neutrality when conducting research. However, different sociologists have argued that it is impossible to maintain complete neutrality when studying human behavior as personal bias may arise. In my opinion, they should understand and overcome their beliefs when conducting research. I believe that sociologists should remain objective when conducting research rather than being subjective.
