Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorder (DSM) was created and published by the American Psychiatric Association, it does provide a single standard criteria as well as language through which mental disorders can be classified (Dweck, 2006). The fifth edition of DSM is what is used in this case as DSM-5. This is made up of diagnoses that are extensively revised and have broadened definition of the cases. There are significant changes that were made under this new edition through deletion of important subtypes of schizophrenia such as paranoid and catatonic.
Principal and secondary diagnoses
Principle diagnosis basically refers to that thing which brought Jessica Smith to Bart Jackson. Principle diagnosis is that condition which has been established to be primarily responsible for the admission of the patient into the care.
Substance induced Anxiety Disorder (292.89w) is the diagnosis for Axis I. this is determined after the evaluation questions have been responded to directly by the patient (Denning et al., 2004). Axis II diagnosis shows that we can state that the patient was suffering from Borderline Personality Disoder.Under the Axis III it can be stated that there is need to have more medical information so as to accurately determine the existence of correlation between the status of the patient and the diagnosis. This is the reaon as to why we take a deferred opinion under this case.
