As you proceed through the course materials and learning activities, you will be expected to make regular (at least weekly) entries in your Learning Journal. These entries should address aspects of everyday culture that you have directly encountered within the domains discussed in each Study Guide unit—the home, the workplace, recreational activities, and real or virtual communities and subcultures. As you write your journal entries, keep in mind the four key themes mentioned in Unit 1.
You are not expected to write answers to the “Thought Questions” from the Study Guide in your Learning Journal. Library research will not be required to complete this assignment—instead you are to reflect on your personal experience. Your first submission should deal with the subject matter of Units 1 and 2.
Length: 4 pages (1100 Words)
Culture can be defined as the shared knowledge, beliefs and ideas which are reinforced by members of a certain group. Culture is like the air we breathe. It is invisible but we heavily rely on it for survival; its logic gives the world order. Stereotypes cloud our judgment of culture. Through our cultural eyes we judge people to be honest, disrespectful, rude, arrogant or religious.
