Chapter Analysis

             Carbon cycle is a biogeochemical cycle that involves a sequence of processes which carbon compounds move from one carbon sink such as oceans and forests to another such as the atmosphere in a recurring manner. The carbon cycle is in danger of disruption since more of carbon dioxide is being released out to the world atmosphere mostly through the continuous fossil fuel’s burning and destruction of tropical forests, whereas less of it is fixed in terms of organic compounds through the processes of photosynthesis by green plants. Clearing of forests has greatly impaired the balance for the cycle from respiration hence affecting the ability for photosynthesis to regulate carbon dioxide. The largest source is the anthropogenic source that involves burning of coal, oil and natural gas used as sources of energy generation, transport, industrial processes, residential and commercial uses with almost close to 6 Gton of Carbon produced from fossil fuels per year (Wright & Boorse, 2013).
