Before reading the text, I knew that Edouard Manet was a French painter. He was amongst the 19th century artists that painted modern life and had a pivotal presence in the transition from realism to impressionism.
The figure of the flâneur, also known as the stroller, refers to the passionate wanderer emblematic of the 19th century French literature culture. Following its creator Benjamin, the flâneur has grown symbolic to important scholars, artists, and even writers.
