The use of social media has been under criticism for altering academic writing by contemporary students. Words such as LOL (laughing out loud) and IDK (I don’t know) have found their way into academic essays in Universities and High Schools all over America. Professor Andrea Lunsford, however, argues that texting has improved the mode of writing in the modern culture compared to the previous years. This paper argues that technology has a positive impact on academic writing as students express themselves more when addressing an audience rather than a single lecturer.
