Firstly, adopting cloud computing in learning institution will free a university or college IT department from purchasing, maintaining, updating, and supporting the software. The student and staff’s expectations will be satisfied with the increasing demand for the current technology in the campus. In effect, the adoption will make it simple for student and staff to share content and to collaborate without having to transfer information files or care about application compatibility. There are many functionalities found in cloud computing services that are sufficient for the needs of the educational sector stakeholders such as the students, teachers, administrators, regulators, parents, and the government. The institutions give the users access to the information, files, and applications via the Internet. Additionally, cloud computing services can be integrated with existing sign-on programs. In effect, hardware or network failure is less of a concern in cloud computing technology. Notably, organizations such as Amazon, Microsoft, and Google are providing free access and grants for learning institutions, researchers, and students to use their services with fewer requirements and capital.
However, cloud computing technology is still a vague concept for some learning institutions. However, the future is promising, and the concept will be one of the significant innovations to enter the global classrooms. The technology will continue to cut the IT costs and create a modern communication and collaborative environment. Modernizing the learning-teaching environment through the adoption of cloud computing technology in classrooms encourage both the students and staff to develop knowledge and skills required for achieving the professional and academic goals. The advent of this technology will continue to spark the interest of many learning institutions globally as the schools opt to adopt the concept as a reliable alternative mechanism of delivering quality information technology services to students and the educational community at a reduce cost. However, the failures experienced by the educational sector adopters of this technology and the barriers that come with the adoption efforts have left may schools skeptical in the process. Thus, this research discussed on the concept of cloud computing and the challenges peculiar to educational institutions. The paper highlights the preferred strategies that can be applied to overcome the barriers and to ensure a reliable and safer transition from the traditional IT ecosystem to the cloud ecosystem for users and stakeholders in the educational sector.
