Are pleasures such as drinking enough “to keep the horrors of life at bay” and to create happiness?
Drinking does not keep life’s horrors at bay. Conversely, it only makes one temporarily forget his/her problems. Accordingly, the individual will wake up to find the state of affairs the same as before he/she got intoxicated. The author tells us that life is a gift of God and one should be happy by virtue of being alive. Life is precious and ought to be preserved.
Furthermore, life is not meant to be easy. Individuals should tackle daily challenges with boldness and joy by virtue of being alive.
