An Air Accident related to Electronic Flight Management Systems
Electronic flight management system is programmed to help pilots fly safely through the help of a Control Display Unit (CDU) (Stolzer, Halford & Goglia, 2011). The CDU has taken the place of manual flight controls or autopilot navigation that relied on displays driven by radios that received signals from ground based navigation stations. The Control Display Unit comprises of a keyboard and a multi-function display system that provides the pilots with a good platform for controlling an aircraft. Sometimes, errors can be introduced into the Electronic flight management system by incorrect data entry, or by an incorrect database and the consequences can be disastrous if not detected and corrected. The flight management and the pilots are charged with the responsibility of preventing all the possible errors, and detecting and mitigating them.
